Memory Foam Matress

What makes for a great memory foam matress? Good question. I’m sure you’ll find much information on the technical aspects regarding memory foam mattress material, such as the density rating, indentation load deflection and the mmHg. This can confuse the best of us!

But really, what makes up a great memory foam matress? Let me tell you. Here are the things that stand out to me when looking for a memory foam mattress.

First – Long term comfort

When looking at any mattress, including the memory foam matress type, you need to try them out. What feels great for 10 minutes can be terrible to sleep on overnight. You really need to test out how the mattress feels. It’s tough, unless the retailer has the ability to let you try it out at home.

Some do, but if you are an unlucky individual, you will have to resort to the standby approach. Just lay on the darn thing right in the store. Yep, I’ve said no to many a mattress just by laying on it for ten or fifteen minutes.

You may get a few stares from other customers, but you can be sure, you’ll find them doing exactly the same thing within minutes. If the store salesperson won’t let you do this simple test, it’s time to go to the next store.

Try to narrow down the two or three mattresses that you really like. If you are married, it goes without saying, that you better make sure you and your spouse totally agree! Now, to step two.

Two – Heat factor

One thing that can be uncomfortable when sleeping on a memory foam matress is the fact that it is a lot warmer to sleep on then a standard box spring mattress. This is a trade off. If you don’t like this extra heat, especially when sleeping in a warmer climate, you may find that this is a dead end for you and memory foam mattresses.

Personally, this was a killer for me. I like my bed to be cool. Although I found the mattress more comfortable above all others, I couldn’t get beyond the extra heat factor. Maybe over time, I could, but buying a mattress is a ten to twenty year commitment.

If the heat factor doesn’t bother you and as a matter of fact, many individuals that suffer from chronic pain find the heat helps to relieve the extra pain, then onto step three.

Three – Memory foam Matress origin

This is probably a vital factor to consider. If you find a sweet deal on a memory foam matress and it passes all the other tests, find out where the foam is manufactured. But double cautious now. A mattress can be assembled in the USA or Canada and hold the all important sticker, made in the USA or Canada. But where did the foam material come from?

There is a tremendous amount of cheap knock-off memory foam matress manufacturers residing in other countries that create an inferior product. Sticking to bigger memory foam mattress sales stores may help in this regard.

If that perfect memory foam matress has passed all of the above tests, you may have a winner! I wish you luck on finding the right mattress for you.
